I can tell you about my accomplishments, the presentations I've given, and my work on behalf of the community but this is only part of who I am. I can also tell you about what drives me as a person, what I believe in, and how I relate to others. Finding the right Therapist has to be a balance between that persons clinical skills and their ability to see the world from many different perpectives. They must be able to honor, respect, and understand both themselves and the people they work with. I have built my practice around the belief that everyone has the capacity for change, and to have great courage in moments of crisis. Too often, fears of failure, being judged, or falling short of others expectations keep us trapped. A good Therapist can help you identify those things that hold you back and show you how to live a life worth celebrating. I have found that living fully requires accepting the deeply painful parts, so as to truly appreciate the incredibly joyful times .Having deep connections with others, having a passion for my work and living a mostly balanced life sustains me Client's most frequently describe me as "easy to trust," "a good listener," and someone who "thinks outside the box." I have learned that it is far more important to focus on helping people find solutions, rather than getting stuck in simply describing a problem.
I bring over 20 years of experience as a Psychotherapist to my work. I have worked in many different types of settings, from Foster Children and Refugees to Corporate Boardrooms. I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, although many of my collegues know me for my work with survivors of Trauma. I am nationally recognized for my Clinical expertise, and have presented at the State and local level on issues of Ethics, Sexual Trauma, Disaster Response, and Corporate Wellness Programs. I have received training in a variety of areas, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Trauma and Dissociation, LGBTQ issues, and Brief Couples Therapy. I have been a Program Coordinator for FEMA regionally. I have provided Critical Incident Stress Debriefings and Training. I am a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Social Work. I have attended Stephens College to take classes in Theatre, Dance, and Equestrian Sciences. I bring a variety of life experiences to my practice, including working as a Jazz and Blues musician, training Three Day Event horses, showing and training dogs, being in a Ballet Company, and performing in local Theatre. I enjoy working with people from all walks of life, and consider it an honor to be a facilitator of change for them.
